Intermodal & rail

Containers on rail. Trucks on both ends.

Long haul over 1,000 miles? Rail saves real money. We book the container, the rail leg, and the dray on both sides. One shipment number, one invoice, one dispatcher to call. Standard 53' domestic containers, 40' international, refrigerated rail when the freight needs it.

All four Class I rails. Plus regional drayage on both ends.

When intermodal makes sense

Use rail when…

  • Lane is over 1,000 miles. Rail starts beating truck on cost.
  • Freight isn't time-sensitive. Add 2-4 days vs. team driver.
  • Heavy cargo. Domestic containers handle up to 42,500 lbs.
  • Capacity tight on truckload. Rail capacity stays available when trucks don't.
  • Sustainability matters. Rail uses ~75% less fuel per ton-mile vs. truck.
When it doesn't

Skip rail when…

  • Lane is under 700 miles. Truck wins on cost and time.
  • Pickup or delivery is rural with no nearby ramp.
  • Freight has a hard 48-hour delivery deadline.
  • Shipment is fragile. More handling at the ramp than truckload.
  • Equipment is oversize or hazmat-restricted on rail.

If you're not sure, send the load. We'll quote both rail and truck side by side so you can pick.

Long-haul lane? Send it. We'll quote rail and truck.

You see both numbers. You pick. No pressure to use the more expensive one.
